When we started working with Boxed in 2017, they had already seen early success. Popular with a core group of enterprise customers and millennials, they were looking to expand and define themselves in a highly competitive market dominated by Amazon and Costco. What had originally begun in the CEO’s garage in New Jersey was quickly becoming a real competitor as they built out the tech advances and customer experience that major grocery brands had failed to address.
So, we hit the ground running. We established them as a known commodity and household name by securing coveted spots on morning shows, features in top-tier consumer outlets, and buzz through targeted hero-product campaigns.
Laying the foundation for Boxed’s business narrative, we announced their choice to fully automate their fulfillment center without a single layoff — placing the company squarely in the middle of a timely AI and robot takeover conversation. We consistently shared Boxed’s values-driven mission and unparalleled commitment to employee well-being (highlighting perks such as paid college tuition, weddings, vacations and more), building mainstream cache. Through successful newsjacking, we established CEO, Chieh Huang, as a key player on all ecommerce topics, an expert on serving millennials, and a credible POV as Boxed continues to experiment and branch out into new offerings.
